Beijing has been hit by torrential weather, leading to widespread flooding and havoc across various areas. Fangshan district is among the most severely affected regions.
Song Helong, deputy chief of staff from a Beijing garrison unit revealed that around 00:30 am on July 31, they received orders to rescue residents trapped in the Beixiasi village on the hill in Fangshan district. The rain on the hill was torrential, submerging bridges and reaching a water depth of around 30 centimeters.

In a video captured by Song, his unit can be seen driving against floodwaters to carry out the rescue, with the water level nearly reaching the tires. On a red piece of paper inside the vehicle, a message was written: "Hold the steering wheel, think of safety."
By August 2, the floodwaters had receded from the factory area, leaving behind traces of the devastation. The ground had been distorted and torn by floodwaters. Along the roadside, fallen trees and power poles were visible.
In the aftermath, a car had been swept by the flood against a wall, its body showing significant damage. It seemed no different to a blue toy car also swept away in the chaos.
Inside the homes of factory workers, the imprints of the flood were vividly evident. A substantial amount of silt had accumulated indoors, reaching a depth of about half a palm. A toppled wooden chair remained embedded in the mud, yet to be reclaimed.
Residents wielded basins as they worked to restore order amidst the mayhem caused by the floods. Soldiers also joined the rescue efforts, clearing the main roads leading to the factory and the village.
Song remarked, "Clearing the streets might not be the most challenging task we've undertaken, but it can help people return to normal life as soon as possible."

Prior to this, they had been engaged in days of operations, evacuating hundreds of individuals and subsequently reinforcing dams while embarking on mud-clearing tasks.

Wang Geng, a political instructor from a unit within the Beijing Garrison, explained that initially, the mud on the roads had piled up to ankle height. Cleaning approximately 100 meters of the road took over an hour, and dozens of trucks were needed daily to transport the removed mud.
Song has served in the garrison for 15 years, participating in multiple disaster relief operations, including the heavy rain in Beijing on July 21, 2012. Back then, this same region was also affected. He noted that compared to the situation in 2012, the current rainfall had been more intense, but due to advanced preparations, the damage had been relatively contained.
Within the military unit, many soldiers were born after 1990, with some even as young as 20 years old. Soldier Xu Yanda, who joined the military just over a year ago, participated in disaster relief operations for the first time. Sweating profusely, his face was flushed. Despite the arduous operations and fighting fatigue, he said, "Serving the people makes me feel very proud."
Wang mentioned that "many comrades fell asleep on the journey back to base due to exhaustion, but their enthusiasm for work remained high the next day."

Local villager Li Runcheng, aged 63, described this as the largest rainfall he had ever witnessed, lasting for three consecutive days, during which they dared not venture outdoors.
He expressed gratitude for the soldiers, stating, "Seeing these PLA soldiers, I'm very thankful. They are truly working for the people, providing support to our country."
