Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei won two more bronze medals on Monday at the Paris 2024 Olympics, bringing her total to six medals: one silver and five bronze.
In a post-race interview, she expressed regret over not winning a gold medal and shared her desire to change her lifestyle after the Games, possibly by finding a boyfriend, going to college, or traveling.
Zhang Yufei, known for her hard work, competed in six events at the Paris Olympics, winning medals in all. Despite this, she expressed regret for not winning a gold medal, saying, "I'm proud but not satisfied with just bronze and silver. I dream of winning gold."
She acknowledged the harsh reality of sports: "Even if you give your best effort, you don't always get the results you want."
This is Zhang's third Olympic Games. After this Olympics, she hopes to take a break and change her life, which has been focused on swimming for many years. "I want to try a different life experience. Maybe I'll find a boyfriend, and I also want to go to university and travel," she said.
In the women's 50-meter freestyle final on Monday, where Zhang won a bronze medal, 31-year-old Swedish veteran Sarah Sjostrom took the gold. This was the fifth Olympics for the Swedish veteran.
When asked if Zhang could participate in five Olympic Games like her longtime rival, Zhang said, "Yes, I want to be like her. Maybe after experiencing different aspects of life, I will come back. Who knows?"
