A fresh Ph.D. in Computer Science has been expecting someone to ask this
question during a job interview: " So, I noticed from your resume that you
published only ** papers in the past several years, Why?"
Today, this embarrassing question finally did pop out of a curious
interviewer.
If you were in her shoes, how would you justify in a professional and
positive manner ?

请问，大家一般租房的deposit都是一个月房租的价格么？新租了房子，房东要一个月
房租的deposit，是不是不是很nice啊？

that's about right. in the old days, it's first (month rent) & last +
deposit at move in... very few does it now.

那这样的可以和她去argue么？一开始我也没反应过来，后来打电话告诉LG，LG说一般
nice的房东，不会要这么高。。。

1 month is fine. what do you need to argue? in old days, you pay 3 months
at move in

和房东说好是签13个月，然后free一个月的房租，估计她就要了一个月房租的deposit..

主要是以前住的房子，房东都没有收一个月钱的deposit，所以就来问问大家的建议，
然后自己心里有个数。。

我不是说不用交deposit,我的意思是上来问问大家的建议，交一个月房子的deposit是
否合理。。

我觉得这是正当要求啊，我家以前租房子也是付一个月房租的deposit。

租房一年合同有免一个月房租的？我刚租了大house,不是亏大了？

看地方，在租房市场比较俏的地方（比如NYC)，你可能不光要交first month + last
month + deposit，还可能要交broker fee, move in fee, no refundable cleaning
fee等等。在房多租客少的地方(比如广大农村地区）, 如果你credit高，收入有保障，
zero movie in fee的很多。
