Due to the economic slide,the job market fro Finance Ph.D. is very tight this
year,especially for the opennings in top 50 b-school.The job chances from
industry have shrinked badly as well. It is a tough time for
everyone.Rememeber,even for MBA graduates from elite schools like Wharton over
30% percent are jobless.This precentage is significantly higher w.r.t
internationals.So the job situation is ALREADY much better for Ph.D. compared
to MBA.If you are from a tier-1 or tier-2 programs you can

One of them is a Chinese. Another two are internationals
(Euorpeans?).According to survey,citizenship is a trivial issue in the
recruitment of business faculty.If you can communicate in English
professionally you research will decide your chance to secure a faculty
job.One chinese from another b-school got 135k/9 month from a state university
this year.Actually the Chinese grauduate mentioned in the beginning got an
offer near 150k/9 month from a b-school.He/She declined it for some personal

Citizenship is not an issue here because
there are many PhDs from Europe or other
countries. Their advantage in language or
culture should not be neglected when compared
with Chinese. One conspicuous example is
we can see many Indian guys in bschools
but much less Chinese professors, though
one of the results might be the time-delay
of our attention to this hot area:) We
should also notice that many top sholars
are from Europe, including the finance
field.
