It is a wonder that Hugary contributes so many outstanding conductors to the
world, including Reiner, Ormandy, Szell, Solti, Kertesz. Another one who is
easily forgot is Ferenc Fricsay. Actually he and the orchestra RIAS he conducted
was the backbone for DG recordings in the 1950s.
Superificially speaking, his style is romantic and emotional. The other
characteristic is that his tempo is very fast. He left behind quite a few good
recordings, including two famous mono ones: Mozart's Magic Flute a
