Just come back from Holiday Dance Classic, the 2nd largest comp in 2006,
with over 11500 entries. OSB was the first one with 15000+ entries.
Max and Julia beat Andrei/Elena again in Latin. Victor/Ann won Standard.
Smooth/Rythm is kind of boring. Top dancers like Toni/Ben Ermis/David Weiss
are all missing from the comp.
Highlight of the event - Pro Show, organized by Wendy Johnson
This year's Pro Show ( a mini-show similar to "Burn the Floor") is better
than the last years. Specially, it includes

Right, in Vegas.
Actually, I feel this one is the best one to go, if you only visit one dance
competition a year. It is in Vegas and right before Xmas.

nah really......still not enough competitors in standard age A category...
OSB is the only comp with enough competitors for A......

NDCA A is usually anyone under age 35, sometimes 30. It usually depends on
the comp, and often, it will be further broken down into A1, A2, etc (where
A1 could be 16-20, A2 = 21-25, etc, but it varies a lot by the comp)

isn't that basically adult category? no enough ppl compete in adult
category? that's weird... is that because mostly only rich old ladies do
pro-am? but there are also all-amature events in NDCA, right?

Mostly people in their 40's in pro/am, not much young crowd at all. Yes,
there is all amateur categories at NDCA comp, but unless the comp in one of
those near NYC (such as Manhattan Championsihp, Maryland, etc), the amateur
event is very low quality......mostly the same crowd who did pro/am will
dance amateur with another student from their studio or with her husband or
his wife, etc. Not worth it.

really!
how about NDCA amateur events comparing with normal but good collegiate
competitions? like the one at Purdue or Michigan?

A Michigan brzone finalist won NDCA comp at Cleveland. There were about 10
couples at the Cleveland NDCA comp.

NDCA amateur events are usually divided into novice, pre-champ and champ. So
, they competed in novice and were clearly the winner.

The novice event in OSB looked like new comer in collegiate comp, so I can
see why the bronze couple can win the NDCA novice...

yep, but a brzone or even silver couple certain can't afford to dance in the
next level, which is prechamp.....

depending on location of the NDCA comp...
east coast NDCA comp usually have the same crowd dancing NDCA and USA Dance
comp's - those who really works hard everyday and want to dance well and
compete, not the more recreational dancers.
Other NDCA comp's are hard to say. The quality can vary quite a bit. Usually
there will be one couple who is clearly better than the rest, and better
than collegiate couples, but then the rest are just not too impressive.
