Latin vs Rythm?# Dance - 轻舞飞扬

I am wondering if it is ok to dancing Internation Latin technique in
American Rythm competitions. I am working on American Rythm right now, but
a lot of the techniques my
instructor is teaching comes from international style (like from Slavik and
Karyna's DVD). And he said don't worry about that, there are a lot of
people using Latin technique in American Rythm, and in fact it is a trend to
do so. But I have other friends telling me that it would put me at a
disadvantage at competitions.

我觉得可以这样理解,好比经商,international是学院派,american rythm是实践派
你说你在实践中用点学院派的理论好不好?当然好!但是又不能僵化

Thanks for the reply.
But I get confused when people ask me what style i am doing, when I say
Rythm, they say but you are landing on straight knee (especially when
walking forward). If I say international, besides the figures, I actually
dance slow on 1 and 2.

牧雨,
虽然我也是跳舞的beginner,但是我想向你讲讲我的想法,你可以看看我说的有没有道
理。
Obviously, it is ok to dance American Rhythm dances with International Latin
technique. No one will disqualify you. No one will do anything about you.
If you are a good latin dancer, then you are going to do ok in rhythm, too.
Therefore, it is ok. However, is it very appropriate to dance American
Rhythm with 100% International Latin techniques? Probably not.
Because most rhythm dancers have less training than the latin dancers, it
gives people a

wow! Thanks for the detailed reply.
Indeed, i am just talking about Rumba and Chacha here.
Take Rumba for example, what are the technique differeces between
the American and International style?
For example, looking at this showcase from Tony Dovolani and Elena Grinenko,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8E8b6vBIbQ
maybe it is just me with poor observation,
but how can you tell that this is an American Rumba?
Especially looking at Elena's walks, what is defining it to be
American Rumba walk?

Didn't read all the reply, but to answer OP's question about straight vs bend legs:
Yes, for rhythm, it's supposed to be on bend knees, whereas, straight legs
are danced in Latin. However, as more any more International couples moving
to Rhythm, especailly those from Eastern Europe, you can *often* see
straight legs being danced in professional rhythm competitions. There have
been debates about this. There are people who are totally against it, but
recent results have shown that this particular

牧雨,
I don't blame you for not recognizing this american rumba. If I wasn't
paying close attention to it, I wouldn't recognize it, either.
The biggest difference between american rumba and international rumba is the
count. American rumba goes on 3,4,1 while international rumba goes on 2,3,4
. However, in this clip they didn't dance enough to this basic count for you
to recognize easily.(american rumba music is also faster, and is the same
speed as international chacha)
Because the speed is much f
