Senior Big Data Engineer

ADP Innovation Labs are a natural evolution for ADP. We have existing teams
focused on the enhancements and support of today's client offerings, and
through the ADP Innovation Labs, we have ongoing investments in finding
great new ideas for the future. Both are essential to continuing our long
history of success. Many of our core solutions in the US and across our
International products are leveraging new capabilities incubated in the lab
and will continue to roll out another wave of new innovations this year.
ADP is expanding its Innovation labs and building a start up style operation
in NYC in order to accelerate new technical innovation across UI, Search,
Big Data, Social...etc., The concept and vision behind the strategy is "
Innovate like a Startup" with the goal of delivering highly automated,
intelligent and predictive solutions to the market. Our goal for the
expansion of the Innovation Labs is to have specialized teams of superstars
focused in these areas to keep pace with market trends and quickly incubate
and deliver capabilities that will dramatically increase the value of our
solutions for clients. They will drive our next gen user experiences,
designs and technologies which will be incorporated into our products &
platforms and make their way into the next wave of solutions for ADP.
Contract to hire- Candidates on Visa’s are okay as long as they will
transfer to ADP after 6 months

Project
We’re looking for individuals who live, eat & breath technology and have
dreams of working in big data & analytics. We envision a future where we go
beyond the simple CRUD of today’s transactional system and embark on truly
intelligent & predictive computing platforms. If you want to push the dial
even further then the Innovation Lab may be for you.
This consultant will be working within the innovation labs in NYC for ADP.
They will be working on cutting edge products for any of ADP’s future HCM
products. This person will be working to develop rules and recommendation
engines that provide predictive analytics.
Looking for a right candidate, but candidates on visas are okay. ADP will
sponsor if need be.
Top Skill Sets:
Strong experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and other big data open source
platforms.
Worked with additional software that can be installed on top of or alongside
Hadoop, such as Pig, Hive, HBase, Spark.
Someone that knows data modeling, data architecture, data structures, and
data algorithms.
Functional programming experience with technologies such as Haskell
Experience in scripting language of choice (Python or Java)
Scala, or Google Closure development tools
Able to find creative solutions and move quickly to deliver them.
Strong ability to collaborate with team members throughout the process and
consult with other project teams on the design and use of enterprise data.
Experience with graph database is a huge plus or experience with artificial
intelligence.
A big data engineer should have sufficient experience in software
engineering before the move can be made to the field of big data. Experience
with object-oriented design, coding and testing patterns as well as
experience in engineering (commercial or open source) software platforms and
large-scale data infrastructures should be present. Big data engineers
should also have the capability to architect highly scalable distributed
systems, using different open source tools. They should understand how
algorithms work and have experience building high-performance algorithms.
A big data engineer should embrace the opportunity of dealing with petabyte
or even exabytes of data on a daily basis. A big data engineer understands
how to apply technologies to solve big data problems and to develop
innovative big data solutions.
Qualifications should include:
• To enjoy being challenged and to solve complex problems
on a daily basis
• To be proficient in designing efficient and robust ETL
workflows
• To be able to work with cloud computing environments
• To be able to assist in documenting requirements as well
as resolve conflicts or ambiguities
• To have strong co-ordination and project management
skills to handle complex projects
• Designing technical architectures for complex solutions
• Writing great software adhering to agile software
engineering practices (e.g., TDD, continuous integration, automated tests,
etc.)
• Code review and mentorship of other developers on agile
team
• Git or Mercurial experience
Minimum Qualifications
• Masters / Bachelors' degree in Computer Science or
related field (In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant work experience)
• Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in designing
large scale solutions
• Expert knowledge of one of the following languages Scala
, R, Java, Julia, Python, F# or Go
Preferred Qualifications
• Technical knowledge of the least one major Graph
Database, such as OrientDB, Giraph, Neo4J or Titan
• Demonstrable Hadoop experience along with knowledge of
the HDFS ecosystem of technologies such as Hive, Shark, Pig & Map Reduce
• Experience with a NoSQL database, preferably MongoDB,
Accumulo, Cassandra, Hbase or Gemfire
