All PhD level research should have a clear targeted problem to attack.
Different people have different understanding and different levels of interest
in the problem. If you don't like it, you might think it is boring and
insipid, or "too simple, too naive", so you won't enjoy and won't be able to
contribute to the solutions. But if you really enjoy it, you should feel happy
about it. That is the fundamental basis for your PhD research. Chinese

Face the reality, man. publish or perish!
publications -> promotion, tenure, funding, fame, more quality students,
more publications ..... ...... .
publications basically mean everything in this society.
How can you say that 100 publications are nothing? They are real.
On the other hand, if one has 100 publications,
chances are (s)he has done some quality work,
as someone above said, not likely all of them are trash.
Quality is important, quantity is important too, particularly in the early
