My roommate moved out yesterday.
Today one of his friends called at my number.
I answered the phone and said, 'he's left'
but the guy calling the phone didn't understand, asked me
'is there someone nearby speaking english?'
what's wrong with 'he's left'?

he's left means he has left out and might come back later..why not just say
he moved out, hehe..

really. but once I called my friend who worked in a company,
the receptistor told me he's left. I don't know what is its meaning.
but later my friend told me he had quitted that before I called.

well, i think that person was rude and you should have told him "i AM
speaking english you're just not listening."
and if he insists on speaking to someone else just tell him: sorry i didn't
want to tell you this before but he (your ex roommate) is with someone else
now, he asked me not to give you his new number.

left the company means quit, left home means went out and might come back
