“Now onto what all the talk is about. It is now almost certain that a very
po
werful and cold storm system will begin to move down the coast and forwards
our area by Friday evening so look foe increasing clouds and colder air then
. By Saturday the first of what looks to be 3 waves of heavy rain and mounta
in snow will move in. Snow levels with this first wave look to be near 4500
feet, dropping to 3000 feet Saturday night. A second ans colder wave arrives
late Saturday into Sunday morning with more heavy rain and snow. By Sunday
afternoon the cold core and most potent part of this storm will come right o
ver us. This will bring thunderstorms with hail and even funnel clouds with
the strong March sun aiding their potency.
The snow level then takes a huge dive down to between 1000 and 2000 feet. Ma
ybe even lower. This brings the concern of a widespread snowfall event for h
igher valleys of the I.e as well as the antelope valley floor. The high dese
rts will certainly see plenty snow even out in Joshua tree. So overall throu
gh Monday expect about 1.5 to 3 inches of rain west of the mountains then 1
to 2 feet of snow above 3500 feet in the mountains and 2 to 3 feet above 600
0 feet with even locally higher amounts then that above 70000 feet. For the
high deserts look for 8 to 16 Inches of snow above the 3500 foot level but s
everal inches may fall as low as 2000 feet, mainly Sunday evening. Things ma
y taper down a bit Monday but wrap around moisture will likely keep snow goi
ng in the mountains and a few showers in the valleys with the beaches cleari
ng. More details on all of this as the storm gets closer and of course all a
mounts are subject to change especially with the system still being so far o
ut. ”
