虽然不好妄加评论，但从信中也知道此人EQ偏低。连最基本的courtesy 都不懂。 Move
on,即使他答应了，我看以后在写信的时候也未必顺利。这个世界总有这么一种人。

他跟我老板也不是很熟，只是相互认识
本来想邀请他是因为他跟国内几个教授有合作，共同从中国申请funding
而且还收养了一个中国小女孩。感觉上对华人应该比较友好
也许是人家正遇到不开心的事，proposal 被毙之类
anyway, move on. 还好其他几个推荐人都很顺利的接受了邀请

只不过我不想让老板觉得我烂用他的关系。
因此我只简单提了一下我以前是xxx的学生，也没有用xxx 建议我联系你之类的话
也许是我考虑欠周全。

我说的模板是，询问他愿不愿意作为推荐人的模板
其实就是问了他一个问题
"I am wondering if I could have the honor to have you as an independent
reference for my application."
不是推荐信。

这和你考虑周全不周全没多大关系，从这封回信，就基本可以决定move on了。这类人
再大牛也要远点。这个世界所谓的大牛也并不代表他到这个世界就比你有多少值得尊敬
的地方，上帝选你来，选他来，都是公平的，所谓牛不牛都是人封的。有些人还真把自
己当回事情了。

ignore and move on！曾经也碰见过这么一个非常rude的人，真是脑残！
我的感觉是一般只是学术上很牛的人都不是很nice，也不热心帮忙，但是学术上不错但
同时担任很多社会职务的人，比如什么chair, director之类的，都比较nice，愿意帮
忙，也好说话。Good luck!

按理讲大牛老板不会不懂得基本的礼貌吧？他也犯不着contact阿？contact那边对你
有什么影响？他的逻辑在哪里？是不是你的信中存在让别人误解的地方，比如说被他
理解成了让他
做伪证？
很难说清楚，但是一顶存在某种被错误理解了的信息。

这段包括在好几份邀请推荐信模板中，后来人用的时候要多斟酌。

我觉得你有必要回信教育他一下这种要独立推荐信的模式。
要让他明白你没有作假。
（1）移民局要求独立推荐信。
（2）现在推荐人大多数都希望有个模板，然后在上面改改，这样节约时间。
（3）你所为is totally legal.

可能是你的信没写好，让人误解了。
信的内容要简单，直接，让人一看就知道是怎么回事。
写信的语气要不卑不亢，不要“太”polite。
很多“大牛”，都有脾气，有的直接给你一个“kiss off”，让你也是很郁闷的。

一般人都明白draft是什么意思吧。
我们这边本科生要推荐信，教授都说要学生自己写个东西，他们才在上面改改抄抄。又
不是draft就是要他一定这么写。

这个世界是有这样一类人的，就我个人跟editor in chief申请审稿和要推荐信过程来
看，觉得美国人和英国人这样的人比率大些。
大致可以把他们归为四类:
第一类，有能耐，没脾气 (大家学者风范, 给后辈做出了很好的榜样，值得尊敬)
第二类，有能耐，暴脾气
第三类，没能耐，还暴脾气
第四类，没能耐，也没脾气

你一上来就说让律师帮他起草，不是说可以让他选择你提供draft，当然冒犯了那些死
板的教授！我的phd 导师也是那种很死板的人，虽然年纪不大，但坚持自己写推荐信。
另一个法国的独立推荐人也是不愿意用我的draft。我会先email问能否帮忙做
reference，如果回信说愿意，再委婉的说如果他愿意的话我可以提供有draft。
还有，我觉得问推荐信不能用模板，应该针对每个推荐人，好好解释为什么邀请他帮忙
。如果是你接到一个陌生人发来的模板email要求帮忙，你也觉得不爽吧。

别理他，真正的牛人都谦虚着呢，莫欺少年穷，谁知道会不会今天的小博士以后会不会
成为大牛呢。这么没修养的人，以后会有苦头吃的。说不定这会儿funding被拒了啥的

field. Especially, it is of great help to have some independent reference
from outside US.

your endorsement since you are the expert in this research field.

我觉得发这第一封email的时候就可以附上CV，这样让人家好判断到底要不要给你
reference，没有CV的情况下，有些人可能很难做决定，碰上没耐心的可能就直接
ignore你的请求了

对，你这是good point,
所以说一定要把你的贡献在信里说的简短而明白，并写出他们发表到哪了，就象一个简
单的CV。反正这两个我的试验过，好象都ok.或者都不ok.
大家可以探讨下。

Seems that LZ has used a similar letter to yours. Many words are the same (
such as "notify my attorney to compose a draft for your review...")
So I think the problem is not LZ's letter. Some people are not nice.
LZ can ask more people. Many people are very nice and willing to help.

写封推荐信.这就是作假了.
从你贴的那些内容,我觉得你的信没有说明关键问题,也太罗嗦.还不如在这个版上自己
看看研究一下呢.
首先,你要解释清楚什么是"independent reference".毕竟对一个连uscis不叫INS的人
来说,这些rules人家可能根本不知道.
其次,你要说明人家只要在熟悉的领域对你的成就作评论,不用假装认识你而乱吹一番.
最后,第一封信不要付cv,可以附一个pub list,先征得人家的同意再说.也可以提一下为
什么你会找人家写信,比方说读过人家的paper觉得人家可能对自己作的东西比较熟悉,
或者人家引过你的paper,或者老板之间有过合作,等等.

我觉得内容要简要，我第一次就把 CV 附上了，而且点明如果他们同意给他起草个
draft,成功率大约 7~80%, 没回信就 move on,还有俩开始答应，后来发过去 draft 没
消息了。

是啊，后来我跟杂志要审稿的信，直接在版上找了个模版，发了二十多封后才发现第一句话就有一个语法错误.

，看到这个回信，似乎感觉好点了，不过被一个老印系主任无情拒绝（可能跟推荐我一
个POSTDOC工作我没去脸上挂不住有关，我现在想来我是邪门了怎么这么不知趣还找人
写推荐信???)
这信要下来一圈估计脸皮要厚不少

注意策略,然后把脸皮一丝(换个字吉利点的字),心一横,邮件送出就好了... 可惜目前
为止我也还只有3封,可是我已经迫不得已E-FILE 140 了，撞运气，REF也行，只要不直
接据我,不过那$580是凶多吉少。
