A potential U.S. Customs and Border Patrol employee was arrested after he
revealed to Yuma agents during a job interview that he previously molested
children and animals, according to agency officials.
On July 2, Cody Slaughter, 22, of Somerton, told Border Patrol officials
about incidents in his past including the molestation of a young child and
having sexual interaction with multiple animals, according to Major Leon
Wilmot, a spokesman for the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
Slaughter made the admission in response to a standard question about his
criminal history. Interviewers asked if he had committed any unreported
criminal acts in the past, Wilmot said.
Border Patrol agents informed the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, which sent
deputies to search his home. Deputies found several pieces of evidence that
confirm the alleged crimes, Wilmot said.
Slaughter was booked on one count of sexual conduct with a minor involving a
2-year-old girl in 2004 and three counts of bestiality spanning from 2004
to the present, according to Wilmot.
YCSO is continuing their investigation into Slaughter's case.
Slaughter will appear in court again Tuesday.
This isn't the first time a prospective employee has revealed that he
committed unreported criminal acts in his past, Wilmot said.
"This is not a common occurrence, but it does happen to agencies once in a
blue moon," Wilmot said.
