一个月前收到 Law office of Hayt,Hayt & Landau,LLC的讨债信，
说我欠“Elite Recovery services,INC" $900.
明知道他们是找错人了（虽然信上我的名字和地址都是对的,但是我肯定
没有欠这笔钱），但是还是按照精华区的模板寄回了一份dispute的信(certified and
return receipt)，要求
他们寄来debt的实质性的细节。之后他们寄给我一份所谓的statement，
本金××××，利息×××××，总额××××××。that's it.
今天又收到一份信说” we will proceed in Court to the conclusion of this case
against you unless you remit
payment in the amount shown above to our office".好像是说要通过法律途径来解决
云云。
看完了信，觉得有点搞笑。
请问我是否需要回信呢？虽然明明知道对方在胡搅蛮缠。如果置之不理我会不会有什么
麻烦呢。
如果需要回信，应当写些什么呢？

directly call "Elite Recovery services,INC", not their law firm. Ask them to
verify some information with you, they'll find you're not the debtor. it's
also to their interest not to go after the wrong person because they will
waste the legal fees without recovering anything.

也是一个debt collet agency,
那个什么 law office of hayt,..
估计挂羊头卖狗肉,以law firm的名义来
collet debt.
翻了一下以前的一些信,这笔烂帐转手了好几个
讨债公司了.真是锲而不舍啊.最早的creditor是一个叫
ASPIRE的什么卡来者,我都没听过,更不用说欠他们钱了.
估计他们都没有我的个人信息,只有mailing address而已

没有我的ssn,他们应该不能乱写
我的credit吧?

I don't think it's a good idea to just ignore it. If you do, they may obtain
a default judgment against you, and then it'd be too late to fight them
back. Even if they don't have your SSN, you still cannot escape the
liability.
I sort of second ncode's suggestion. You need to tell them they've got the
wrong person. But since the collection agency is now represented, you should
talk to the law firm, not the collection agency. Call the firm couple more
times. The key is to be proactive.

thanks for your advice.
I just called them and was told that account was opened in 1999.
I was still in China at that time.
I just told them it is not my account but they requested my
date of birth and SSN to verify.
I don't think it is good to release my information to them
over phone at this time so I did not tell them.
Instead, I asked them to send me the documents about that account,
which should be easy for me to dispute.
That's what I have done so far.
Any further suggestions, please let m

Now this is where advice can have consequences. I'd keep my opinion to
myself and suggest you ask a licensed lawyer. Sorry.

ask your school lawyer to see if there's anyway to dismiss the case without
disclosing your sensitive personal information.
