我先来说说我的情况吧:Bio PhD from a Ivy Univ. (明年6月毕业) 。想找IP firm的 technology specialist工作。3篇publication, 考了LSAT, 第一次162,第二次168。 没有绿卡, 没有相关工作经验。 我周围没有作这一行的朋友,所以上来问几个问题: 1.我知道IP这方面做Biology的比较饱和,fresh PhD能找到technology specialist的 机会有多大?我打算申请NYC, Boston, Washington DC和SF这几个area的IP firm. 2.哪里能找到这类job opening的信息?还是要自己一个个firm地问? 3.大概要提前几个月申请?如果希望能明年9月开始工作,几月份开始申请? 谢谢。

2. I suggest 自己一个个firm地问. Look for the firms with chinese partners, partners with business with companies in china, or partners also graduated from your school. Connection is the key. Send your CV and writing sample to them directly. Otherwise if you 找到这类job opening的信息, your CV will go to human resource and sit there for months. 3. as soon as possible

Are you familiar with IP field? I think in other field, there is no so called tech specialist. Tech specialist in IP law firm has similar billing hour requirement and similar billing rate as a first year associate. However the salary is much less than the first year associate. Law firms already take advantage of that, so they are willing to provide tuition for their tech specialists.
