very easy to find out:
solid hard wood floor is 3/4" thick, engineered wood floor only 3/8" thick,
you can tell easily what did you get @ door threshold where the wood floor
terminates and transfers to other material, say ceramic tiles... since most of
the ceramic tiles nowadays are thin set glu on, it need a big wood threshold
piece to pick up the height difference

ft, tropical hard woods grow the slowest! and the top expensive veneer species
are from Aferica or south america, even the verneer cost will be over $20/sf,
no need to mention any body could afford use them as solid wood flooring
the cheapest floor products in us market are actually from Canada, mostly oak
or maple

for those bloodwood or tropical walnut or rubberwood, it's actually growing
very fast - there are lots of plantation in Thailand and Indonesia for them,
costplus even advertises rubberwood as renewal timber. with engineering
treatment they are "qualified" as hardwood for market.
if you are talking about rosewood and like, yes it's growing much much slower
and thru centuries of Chinese furnishing industry, it's source are dwindling,
for this reason more of them are used as veneer. i saw many of s

哎，实在是鸡根鸭讲。。。
都说了N次，hard wood
是建筑业里传统上对落叶木材的统称，和木头硬度没关系，至于engineered wood，实际
是指把几层木头（板）粘合咱一起增强其稳定性，而不是some kind of treatment,

hehe... i know you are professinal but it doesn't mean i don't know it at
all, otherwises how i can call myself "loggie" :D
hardwood planks need engineering treatment before they can be used, like
compression, waxing, staining and blah. engineered wood is more like a
marketing item for those those composite wood - a little like townhouse

嗬嗬，说实话，你说的好多都是挺错误的：-）
第一，所有的木头采伐下来都要处理，无论硬木与否，主要是dry
compression这种treatment瓯实在孤陋寡闻没听说过， staining and bleach is same
with final look finishes, like painting
waxing欧猜你是想说factory applied anti-wearing finish,那种是高强度塑料
其实special wood treatment 最重要的一种是防腐，一般那种绿绿的搭outdoor
decking的木头就是
木头的处理是加强其尺寸稳定性，防腐性和美观，要是真有种treatment 能让木头有钢
铁的强度就好了， engineer wood不是marketing term, 而是指把小块的木材加工成大材
，节约资源同时改善木头单向尺寸不稳定涨缩的缺点

seems my axe is not big enough :D
that's what i mean engineering process. for tropical hardwood, they do
compression to increase its durability, since trpical grown ones tend not
be hard enough.
en, i get this. but isn't engineered a market type? it shall be called
"composited" just like "laminated"
