爬/走/跑:浅谈推孩子的度。# Parenting - 为人父母

Crawl. Walk. Run.
As parents we all know the above sequence for a child to grow. Crawling is
slower than running. But a kid has to learn how to crawl on four before
running on two or hopping on one.
The same rationale applies to the learning process, especially for young
kids.
Math is about relationship of numbers and logic thinking. Many rules are
involved. Some of them are quite abstract for the young minds. Some of them
are intertwined. Some even require a deep understanding of other rules.
Language is an art. One might recognize all the words in a sentence but
remains clueless as to the meaning of the whole piece. Being able to find
all the correct answers in a multiple choice test does not guarantee the ability to
communicate freely and effectively. Regarding how to improve a young kid's
English skills, I personally prefer letting him/her read more BOOKS or write
more ESSAYS to practicing higher level reading EXERCISES or TESTS. Even if
a kid aced a reading test, his or her real English level might not be as high
as the test scores indicate.Vice versa, even if the test scores are low, if
the kid reads and writes well, the parent should not be over worried.
There is a reason why TESTS are administered sparingly in Elementary school.
A kid should spend more time learning the fundamentals than being stressed
by the tests.
Although a kid might seem to crawl in elementary school in relative terms,
he or she could RUN or FLY in high school or later in their career, if their
solid foundations were build with ultimate care.
Crawl, baby! Crawl steadily!
