I really hope Nikon gets a wakeup call from this. I clean my own sensors, so
I didn't find this to be that big a deal - and I'm sure they see it the
same way. Hey, sensors get dirty, as do lenses.
But for those who are "scared" to clean their own sensors, this is a huge
deal. Almost like a car that has to go for service on a monthly basis. I
believe these people see this as a huge design flaw.
Nikon did a horrible job on this, and all they did is create a huge amount
of bad publicity for themselves. Fuji did the right thing and got on top of
the problem rapidly. I admire that. I'm heavily invested in Nikon right now,
but I've stopped all my Nikon purchases, and I'm adding lenses and a body
from one of their competitors. I've always loved my Nikons, but I'm getting
bad feelings about the way they handled the D800 focus issue and the D600
oil issue, and there are plenty of horror stories and frustration with Nikon
's service in the USA. It is as if something got disconnected between
management and the customers. That's a bad thing for a company that is so
dependent on photography. Canon, Sony, Samsung and Ricoh can all dump their
photography business and remain viable. Not so with Nikon.
Nikon - you are starting to lose the faithful. Your actions have been
dishonorable and you should feel shame.
