The normally accepted manner is to give at least a 2-week notice. If you do
not want to "burn" the bridge, give a 3-week notice is a must!
One important fact to keep in mind, most people never care about this, is that
one day in the future you might want your current boss to write you a
recommendation letter. So thinking a bit far away will help you.
In you approach to your current company and boss can be something like that
you have changed your interest, you prefer a different working locat

It might be better if you talk to your current boss about your leaving and
discuss with him/her when would be the approriate time to leave (depends on
the progress and urgency of your current project(s), you may need to give your
current employer more time to have your work transferred or you may be able to
leave right away.) You boss would let you know the procedure you should
follow.

1) google and find a nice/short resignation letter sample; the key here is to
keep it simple, don't try to explain things or customize much, just to say
you'll leave on XX/XX/XXXX (2 weeks at least), and your last day will be
XX/XX/XXXX (this will be used by HR/accounting/etc.);
2) make 2 copies of this letter, give one to your boss and talk with him a
little bit(don't get into emotional/personal), say thanks and discuss about
takeovers. give the other copy to HR;
