Job Responsibility:
Responsible for cell culture media and process development works in labs
using standard cell culture instruments and technologies. Performs duties
independently with only general direction given on new projects and methods.
Accuracy and dedication are required in performing all functions of this
position. Apply laboratory techniques and skills to complete experiments
designed to address a variety of specific problems. Make detailed
observations, analyze data, and assist the interpretation of results.
Identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs. Prepare
technical summaries and protocols for internal use and collaborate on papers
for external use. Manage daily lab activities such as ordering and
maintaining inventory, equipments and instruments maintenance. Erroneous
decisions may have a serious impact on the overall success of functional,
division, or company operations.
Essential Functions:
Conduct routine/designed scientific or engineering
experiments (may be pre-designed) using laboratory equipment (roller bottles
, spinner, shaker, bioreactors and etc.). Make detailed observations and
analyze data. Maintain accurate lab notebook and training file in accordance
with company standard.
Identify and solve elementary problems in experimental
designs. Conduct applications experiments to demonstrate expertise in area
of technical focus using new catalog and custom products and processes.
Advise supervisor of factors that may affect quality,
accuracy, timeliness and usefulness of data. Assist supervisor in the
interpretation of experiment results. Suggests additional experiments.
Suggest options for additional experiments. Plan well understood technical
options to reach a specific technical objective.
Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard
laboratory techniques, improve protocols, processes and equipment. Lead the
documentation of repeatable lab procedures as required. Read literature
directly associated with assigned project. Maintain some familiarity with
competitive products and assist with competitive audits or documentation as
required. Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures.
Occasional travel and work on customer site on request.
Performs duties independently with only general direction given on routine
work. Receives detailed instruction on new assignments or in the design of
experiments. Works on problems where analysis of situation or data requires
a review of multiple identifiable factors. Accuracy is required in
performing all functions of this position. Mistakes in work could cause
substantial data errors and impact on our business.
Demonstrated ability to communicate project’s linkage to
company’s objectives. Experiments results used for new product introduction
, product improvement, process improvement or external collaborations.
Investigate, create and develop new methods and
technologies for project advancement based on technical knowledge and
observations of customer workflows.
May be required to perform other related duties as required
and/or assigned.
Education Requires
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Doctor’s degree or equivalent
experience in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Cell Biology, Biotechnology
or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
Bioreactor experience is required.
Experience Requires
Minimum of 2 years post degree R&D experience in a commercial setting,
preferably in a matrixed organization with project management
responsibilities. This required experience may be either biologically-
focused or process engineering-focused, depending on the business needs.
Cell culture using bioreactor experience and viral vaccine experience are
desired. Proven ability of excellent and substantial experimental protocols,
including but not limited small and large-scale culture of eukaryotic cells
technology, Bioreactor operation technology, measurement and assay
technology and so on. Proven ability to operate lab equipments and
instruments and their maintenance.
Key skills/abilities include:
Small and large-scale culture of eukaryotic cells in a
variety of culture vessels and processes, including batch, fed-batch, and
perfusion. Knowledge/experience in upstream cell culture manipulations and
downstream processes.
Excellent time management skills and ability to work under
minimal supervision required..
Independent planning of technical work using well
understood techniques and analytical methods, with appropriate review and
approval. .Ability to focus on lab tasks. .Quick learner.
Excellent verbal and written (technical writing)
communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific
results in a clear, concise, accurate manner. Ability to communicate
effectively with people of varied cultural and educational backgrounds is
important.
Proven ability to solve problems, employing statistical
approaches (DOE, six sigma,PCA).
Proven ability to lead and provide work direction.
Proven honest, good teamwork and scientific spirit.
Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, research design
and the evaluation of new techniques and procedures.
