What you are learning now could be an invaluable asset. Papers may not be as important as you thought, especially if you do not plan to pursue the faculty route. Moving out of your comfort zone is a challenge but also presents opportunities. Face the problems and see if you could fix them. If your advisor cannot help you, find a mentor in the biology department. A problem for you could be a-piece-of-cake for them. Describe your issues in the experiments, maybe even I could help you. By and large, job market is really bad now if not worse for people majored in biology. Tens of thousands workers have been laid off from pharma industry in the past several years. Many of those cut positions will never come back due to the rising degree of outsourcing. Over years, we have trained way more people than the market can possibly absorb--apparently we are still doing so. Look at how many US-trained or Sino-trained biology Ph.Ds now are stuck in the "postdoctoral training" stage. Yes, the life science research needs lots of highly trained cheap labors. The problem is that there are simply NO enough positions available (faculty or industrial) for the army of biology researchers when they exit the training phases. I don't think this situation is improving any time soon if not getting worse, at least here in US. China, however, still has a good demand for biology workers due to the booming CRO industry. Many people who cannot find a job in US could still find positions in China. Unfortunately, this may not last long either, considering the numbers of returnee professors (and so as students) recruited in the past few years. Just Tsinghua University alone is expanding to have more than one hundred labs in life science in next few years. I wonder how many biology Ph.Ds will be 'produced'. Can the Chinese market take care of these students? Maybe, but one thing is certain: they probably will not be offered a fat salary, again due to the number. Life is a choice, my friend. If you really don't have passion for research, don't waste time on it. My understanding is that science suits people who first enjoy doing it and second don't have financial difficulty feeding the family.
