朋友在美国做了两年博后，J1身份。前几个月做完博后回国休息了一段时间，现在又联
系了一家做博后的，现在准备办J1来美国，但是对方学校说他以前办过J1，现在不能再
办了，必须要豁免。请问是这个情况的吗？下面是学校小秘的回信：
Is his J-1 program still active? If he is in China his DS-2-019 may be
canceled in SEVIS if he is not returning to the current US sponsor. This is
something we need to know because if his program was canceled in SEVIS then
we can’t bring him back under the J-1 due to the 24 month bar on repeat
programs and the 2 year home residency requirement (if no waiver).

第3年应该申请豁免，
然后J1可以再呆两年，

我朋友好像只做了两年，那现在有什么办法？只能办豁免了？

J1豁免办理完毕之后，应该尽量不要再办理J1的延期、transfer或者重新开始新的J1了
，因为豁免只能办理1次……
移民版上有律师专门就J1的豁免及其以后的问题写过一篇文章，可以去搜索一下……

要办理豁免要求人必须在美国，并且有至少半年以上的有效停留期限…………另外，国家公派的
J1不允许豁免……

他不是公派的，另外他人已经在国内了，原来的J1身份在他离开美国后应该失效了，现
在要申请新的J1身份来美国，这样的话就不用豁免了吗？还是必须要在国内等两年才能

可以继续以J1身份出来,不能以H-1, L-1, K-1 and immigrant visas出来，见下。
