Hard to say. They are not professional in any of our majors, but they might have long enough experiences to tell which journals are good and which are BS. Don't take me wrong, I would put every single publication I can dig out in my drawers. I'm just saying, having a Science pub is much more easier to convince IO in publication category, as it is very easy to show this publication's significance and all.
I think for EB1A, the most important thing is to claim you are a distinguished researcher. For the contribution, the key point is to show how deeply your research affects your research area. The supporting evidence includes citation, media report, patent, how your papers were cited and commented, etc. I think if you have science paper, you definitely qualify for significant contribution.
