花。怎么回事？版上大家show过的好像也都不是很长？

最近电视剧《好先生》火了，孙红雷火了（本来就火的发紫）关晓彤也火了！甘静的扮演者车晓也火了！提起来车晓，很多人都不怎么了解，其实车晓已经在娱乐圈混了好多年了！也演了不少电视剧，并且人家的妈妈还是“全民婆婆”王丽云！有人就说了，这么优秀的一位美女，以后肯定能找到一个如意郎觉！非也非也，车晓其实是一个离过婚的女人，早在前几年，车晓就嫁给了山西煤老板！有人就说了，好好的大美女，为什么要嫁给山西的一个煤老板！我说，嫁给煤老板怎么了！嫁给煤老板，说明车晓还是非常认钱的！要不然，煤老板这么丑，她怎么会家嫁过来？她肯定是想做煤老板娘，以后衣食无忧喽！如今离婚了，有的人一直在抨击那个煤老板！唉，你们这些人啊。什么都不懂！车晓同意嫁过来，肯定有她的原因，所以类，该停就停吧！没有怨谁不怨谁，如今，他们已经和平离婚，我们该做的，就是祝福他们，不用抨击任何人！如今车晓火了，以后的日子会越来越好，不用再提起以后，毕竟过去都是历史了！

把事情做好，该出的结果一定要按时出甚至提前出，他就不会在乎你到底是不是
周末来了。
但是最近你必须避免和他产生正面冲突。
其实他的邮件，你大可以用其他委婉的方法来回绝的，没有必要说得那么狠。

做与不做千老与是否玩命干活没有任何关系，与你的老板是谁有很大关系
不过认识不到这一点的人不多，不过PI骗骗新人也是有可能，要不没人干活

我觉得既然说了，也不用后悔。
很多变态老板其实都是欺软怕硬的主。但你也要赶紧准备跑路，因为无论老板今后会对
你如何，这个实验室都不值得你呆下去了。

personal experience, 按时出 is enough. If you 提前出 frequently, the result
will be you get more and more things to do. (It might not be a bad thing if
you are motivated.)

You don't think CS people do that? You don't think EE people do that? You
don't think medical doctors, surgeons, and lawyers do that (granted these
people work on billable hours but not all hours working are billable)?
It is not biology or science in general. It is life and work in general.
How many days per week does people in China working? and for how long?

tons of research scientists in the job market work for 40 hrs per week, they
are exempt!
being exempt only means that if you work 45 hrs in a couple of weeks, forget
about the overtime pay.
it never means that you need to work 50 hrs per week.

Tons people also work overtime HERE in the US, and they are Americans. You
can ask my cousins who is a partner in one of larger law firms in LA. You
can ask my neighbors who are neuro- and orthopedic surgeons. Yes, they work
during weekends, and sometimes over 12 hours a day to finish the job.

不极品啊 千老有没有职业前途啊啥啥的都一点关系没有，千老们工资涨到10万一年，
还是极品老板，还是找不到正式工作，还是天天加班，99%的抱怨都没有了。
要求涨工资天经地义，问题是工资也不是这些“极品老板”定的，或者有权利参与决定
的啊？

这个态度我觉得也不对。postdoc的工资确实是太低了，涨到六七万我觉得才算比较合
理。尤其考虑到postdoc已经慢慢从短期训练性质变成中长期职业性质。
我的意见是老板+postdoc应该都努力去闹去争取。postdoc因为收入问题把火力对准老
板意义很小

Some research associates do earn more than 60-70k a year.
But for fresh postdocs, it is not realistic.
If NIH still dominates the research funding for bio, research postdoc will
not see 60k starting salary. Just look at salaries of the clinical residents
and fellows, who see patients. Even for surgical residents, most of them
get less than 50k starting salaries.
If you can get away with NIH, you may see a big increase of postdoc salaries.

部分同意-所以火力应该对着整个体系的建设者，比如NIH。比如说要求提高R01

部分不同意-即便NIH funding size不变，转变研究体系的构成也可以，比如说
decentrilization: 每个lab从常规7-10人，变成常规2-3人，老板自己做实验。实际上
我现在感觉这个可能是最合适的促进原创发现的规模。当然了，做惯了办公室的老板们
可能不高兴。。

It is not about the R01 size. It is about the doctor-arrogance.
NIH will never pay PhD postdocs more than what it paid for MD postdocs.

这个。。MD postdoc如果实在NIH funded lab工作，那没有理由不和phd postdoc一样
（一样增加）。如果MD postdoc是在类似resident或者fellowship的位置上工作，他们
不是NIH pay，当然也就不归NIH管呀

Just take a look of Damon Runyon and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society postdoc
fellowships. You will see two tiers of salaries, basically for PhDs and MDs
respectively.
Most hospitals will feel honored if their residency programs are supported
by NIH. The federal salary guideline is everywhere.
Of course, hospitals have the autonomy to pay residents more. Just like, you
can pay more to your postdoc, much higher than the guidelines.
But, most people just follow the guidelines, especially MDs.

做与不做千老与是否玩命干活没有任何关系，与你的老板是谁有很大关系
不过认识不到这一点的人不多，不过PI骗骗新人也是有可能，要不没人干活

该出的结果一定要按时出甚至提前出
personal experience, 按时出 is enough. If you 提前出 frequently, the result
will be you get more and more things to do. (It might not be a bad thing if
you are motivated.)

don't think medical doctors, surgeons, and lawyers do that (granted these
people work on billable hours but not all hours working are billable)?
It is not biology or science in general. It is life and work in general.
How many days per week does people in China working? and for how long?

tons of research scientists in the job market work for 40 hrs per week, they
are exempt!
being exempt only means that if you work 45 hrs in a couple of weeks, forget
about the overtime pay.
it never means that you need to work 50 hrs per week.

Tons people also work overtime HERE in the US, and they are Americans. You
can ask my cousins who is a partner in one of larger law firms in LA. You
can ask my neighbors who are neuro- and orthopedic surgeons. Yes, they work
during weekends, and sometimes over 12 hours a day to finish the job.

这个态度我觉得也不对。postdoc的工资确实是太低了，涨到六七万我觉得才算比较合
理。尤其考虑到postdoc已经慢慢从短期训练性质变成中长期职业性质。
我的意见是老板+postdoc应该都努力去闹去争取。postdoc因为收入问题把火力对准老
板意义很小

Some research associates do earn more than 60-70k a year.
But for fresh postdocs, it is not realistic.
If NIH still dominates the research funding for bio, research postdoc will
not see 60k starting salary. Just look at salaries of the clinical residents
and fellows, who see patients. Even for surgical residents, most of them
get less than 50k starting salaries.
If you can get away with NIH, you may see a big increase of postdoc salaries.

部分同意-所以火力应该对着整个体系的建设者，比如NIH。比如说要求提高R01

部分不同意-即便NIH funding size不变，转变研究体系的构成也可以，比如说
decentrilization: 每个lab从常规7-10人，变成常规2-3人，老板自己做实验。实际上
我现在感觉这个可能是最合适的促进原创发现的规模。当然了，做惯了办公室的老板们
可能不高兴。。

It is not about the R01 size. It is about the doctor-arrogance.
NIH will never pay PhD postdocs more than what it paid for MD postdocs.

这个。。MD postdoc如果实在NIH funded lab工作，那没有理由不和phd postdoc一样
（一样增加）。如果MD postdoc是在类似resident或者fellowship的位置上工作，他们
不是NIH pay，当然也就不归NIH管呀

Just take a look of Damon Runyon and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society postdoc
fellowships. You will see two tiers of salaries, basically for PhDs and MDs
respectively.
Most hospitals will feel honored if their residency programs are supported
by NIH. The federal salary guideline is everywhere.
Of course, hospitals have the autonomy to pay residents more. Just like, you
can pay more to your postdoc, much higher than the guidelines.
But, most people just follow the guidelines, especially MDs.

如果老板只是pushy而不是小人的话，你也不用太担心，把活干好就行。如果老板是个
小人，那你就会有麻烦。当然，如果老板小人，你即使没发那种邮件也会陷入别的麻烦
。所以说该干啥还是干啥吧，不要纠结。

Wrong, the US supreme court is simply looking at if the federal government
has the right to set a national minimum wage. It has nothing to do with the
market. Also, in some jobs, you still can earn less than minimum wage and
it is exempted from the minimum wage law.
I never said that you cannot fight for your salary. However, the fastest
way to do it is to find a better job (at least a job that pays better). No
one is stopping you.

Exactly, truth hurts. In other words, people probably have to accept the
fact that their salary is a reflection of their talent/contribution,and it
has nothing to do with their previous training, hard work or what so ever.
As ArtyArty said, if the employee were not happy, he could simply quit and
find a better job, or, leave academia and go to industry, which certainly
would offer more competitive package.

The post-docs gets pay what the NIH dictates (If NIH wants to pay post-docs
70k a year, just give me the money to pay them). Even NIH does not allow
post-doc to go over 5 years. Also, a 7 year post-doc is likely to be less
motivated. Why do I want one unless I know the person personally?

Do you know Linda Buck? How many years was she a postdoc? I do not think she
is alone among Nobel Prize Winners who spent many years on postdoc struggle
. If I recalled correctly, some of Nobel Prize Winners had never been
professors. Therefore, your criterion to judge people's motivation thus
chances to success based on the length of his/her postdoc is not justified.
