我听到的风声是大部分人的R01 grant 要砍10-20%,所以大部分人会没有那么 多钱来支持博士后,所以表现不够好的,尤其是年资比较高的(所以工资也比较高的) ,可能就要小心了。

http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-13-043.h Analyses in the news suggest that (1) in the next couple of weeks, another CR will be passed to replace the one that expires on 3/27. It'll keep the same level of total cuts as the sequestration but gives the president some flexibility to distribute the cuts. (2) the final deal is expected to be mid summer. That's when the debt ceiling expires and after the public has experienced the pain of the cut. So from the tea leaves, it seems that existing grants will be restore to 95% , and there will be less new grants (in addition to new grants being 5 to 10% smaller). Fingers crossed that the NIH will be singled out for a less than average cut for 2014. It was saved from the 2012 cut after all
one of my friends said nowadays no one gets R01 anyway so he kind of feels more relaxing about tenure pressure because he always has some small fundings.

It's good news for many postdocs or fresh phds. Now they have no excuses to stay in this field anymore.
Medicare is directly related to people's life, of course should not be cut, even 2%. Military spending should not be cut either. Basic science research should be cut first, no doubt about it. We all know more than 90% of publications in biomedical field are junk. Not to offend anyone, just to be fair.

Partially agree. Military is the most important for the future of US, and its people who live here, like you and me, and many others. US has to maintain the No. 1 military power in the world to maintain US's leadership. High-tech is also very important, but obviously military force is the most important. Bio-medical research cut, no doubt about it. We share the same opinion. Medicare, there is nothing wrong to spend 20% of GDP in health care. Government spending: health care, military, wellfare are the most important ones. "普通老百姓还是看病难,看病贵"- not true, if you work, you can get insurance through employment. The problem is the unemployed and undocumented , they consume too much health care, which is from taxpayers. And there is no solution to that.

不会。就像Obama说的,it won't be an apocalypse。
