大家好，
我在读doctor in information system management. 准备考qualify exam. 想问一下
大家是如何准备PhD的comprehensive exam (即qualify exam)的呢？　大概花了多长时
间？需要什么材料？有没有一些tips? 非常感谢！　：）

这个应该问你department和师兄们的吧，每个学校每个系的形式和policy都不一样的

我有问过一些，可是觉得老师讲的不是很详细，中国同学没有修我这个系的，老美同
学很难见到人，没有什么速成的common tips 吗？：）

哦，不好意思，谢谢指出。我们学校是comprehensive exam, 一天考4门，一门两个
小时；考过后只要论文也能通过，就算毕业了；我听别的学校同学说考qualify，我
就以为是一样的了。

get some past exams, study your notes and term exams, read books and papers.
.. that is pretty much what you can do. if there is persistence in exam
questions, doing intensive research on past exams maybe helpful...

不知道我可不可以直接和系里要过去的题目，下周问问看。因为
和同学都比较distant, 很少见面，所以没问过他们。要是也像gmat那样有题库就好了，那就一定能过了。

看看能否拿到过去2年的考题（有的学校可以同意），你拿到后尝试自己回答，然后再
不断更新答案。 Comps就是一个不断反复记忆的过程====起码是MIS这个专业，你需要
大量的references去记忆，考试的时候需要用上。以前一个老美同学第1次没有通过
就是因为他老用自己的语言去描述，没有什么key citations, 所以就fail了。
MIS现在job market不好，你需要多发文章去充实自己哦。

just called doctor office, but they don't give out past exam any more on
some concern which is very weird. But they will send me the past syllabus
which will cover some reading.
Thank you guys very helpful advices.

Actually I called the doctoral academic advisor. It is just a simplified
version. Sorry for the confusion.

I was in school pursuing Ph.D. in MIS and now work in academia..
