my school doesn't buy the database I need.

In academia the rule is that you need to coauther with the person who shares
the data with you.

I need data from “first call”, few items like est_1, est_2, company name,
ticker symbol, fpe. Is it possible that you could download for me?

if your school does not have firstcall
u can't use it
even if you get data and finish the paper, u can't submit it

This sounds terrible. How about Bankscope? I aksed friends in China got me
some data from Bankscope. Will I have the same problem?
