The basics of American citizenship is
covered in high school Civics class.
I found a couple of etext here:
http://new.civiced.org/resources/ebooks
There are a lot of differences from
what we are used to. But it's not
rocket science.
American History shaped the American
laws and government so it's good to
understand American History better as
well. Again they are covered in
high school.
For more advanced political science textbooks,
Amazon has a list:
http://www.amazon.com/Political-Science-Social-Sciences-Books/b
For more in depth understanding
of the people and forces in American
law, read biographies especially
of judges and lawmakers.
Last but not least, understand game
theory. It's not rocket science
and it's very practical.
