很多新同学大老远的跑来,而今年已经见不到有人组织老家伙们写什么介绍之类的东西了.
其实生活上的事情,现在的同学肯定比老警察们懂得还多. 不如我来胡说几句在这里学习
和所谓做研究的方法把.
很多学校,把本专业的研究方法当作一们课来讲授,那就好多了.我没有学过,所以就觉得入
门比较难.现在说一些自己瞎总结的看法,请科班出身的高手指点
1. 同学们新到,熟悉生活环境之余,要做TA要选课,每天作业很多,可能压力比较大.但是仍
然可以考虑一下自己选择导师,熟悉领域,甚至到实验室做一些工作.
大部分学校的同学应该有自由重新选择导师.抽出一点时间研究一下现在的导师的研究领
域.看一看他/她发表文章的数量[几年不发文章的可以考虑不跟了吧].年轻,职位低的教授
一般工作热情很高,特别是他们往往有明确的科研目标和项目.你跟了,就可以很快的上手,
不至于常年摇摆不定;名教授,老教授,德高望重,名气会跟你带来一定的好处,但是同时,他
恨可能没时间管你,难以给你足够的指导.他们思维跳跃快,对项目不一定很执著,很专著.
他们自己不在乎发文章,没有压力.你呢,可能就要自己给自己压力了.

is good too, espeically for some CS-related area. The best side of the search
engineer is that it not only provides full paper but also has the reference
entry of the paper for bibtex.

agree, citeseer is very powerful, one can navigate through the reference tree
easily.
Also, most of acm publications are available for free, just search the acm
digital library at http://portal.acm.org/dl.cfm

It always happens that a newbie will be lost if he/she read lots of paper.
But, if you don't read many papers, so how do you know what you can do? Of
course, if your advisor is still staying state-of-the-art, and can give you
workable ideas, you can follow them and don't need to know much. However, for
many cases, you are not lucky, and you need to find what is going on, and even
you need to justify what your advisor tell you.
I think that is a real dilemma for a newbie to start to do research.
