2003 server standard edition. 计算机在自己家里,用的是2wire(2701) 上网。想问
问大家有什么好办法?

I am lost, man, ATT gives you 7 (or 5) IP addresses, how do you expect any
one of them to be pingable if you don't assign them to active hosts?
And you are connecting your computer directly to Internet?! you will be
lucky if your computer does not die the first day.

somebody needs to response the echo request right? so you have to have a pc
associated with the pingable IP as saiwong said.
as for the "only 5 IP's are usable to you", the reason is simple, basically
they assign a /29 subnet which has 8 IP addresses, however one of them is
the network address and another one is the broadcast address, so you
actually have 6 usable. but 5 makes sense too, because they may assign one
IP to your cable modem/router for management's purpose

ISP does not use IP for modem management, that IP is most probably used for
GLBP/VSRP (whatever FHRP) secondary, HSRP would need one more extra IP.

if the modem is in the bridge mode, yes, probably there is another subnet
for this purpose, but in routing mode, very likely for static IP customers
he is just a soho subscriber, how come HSRP applies for him.

Why not? subscriber only sees an IP gateway, you don't know how ISP makes
this gateway redundant.
Anyway, I don't think this is the way how ISP allocate IP addresses to clients, since all traffic will be carried over PPPoEoA, what network mask OP gets does not really matter, traffic between those end hosts will be bridged to DSLAM and then routed back, he/she is essentially have a bunch of /32 addresses and he will not get an effective Ethenet LAN like connectivity between those hosts.

you sure what you are talking about? for a static IP subscriber, usually the
dsl modem is in routing mode or the subscribe has a bridged modem plus a
soho router, in either situation, customer doesn't pay the IP space which is
on provider side. so no matter what kind of redundant tech a provide uses,
it's transparent to a subscriber. by saying that, a customer gets what he
pays.
this customer may have multiple PC's or whatever, but these devices' default
gateway should be on the CE device that s
