怀孕减课时# Faculty - 发考题

我因为怀孕,所以要求下学期减课时。我是visiting lecturer.按照faculty handbook
的解释,faculty有continuous tenure,probationary contract, fixed term 三种。
我以为自己是probationary contract,可是dean认为是 fixed term。如果是
continuous tenure 和probationary contract,有two course reduction with no pay
reduction.可是fixed term没有。
The visiting faculty liaison 跟我说这涉及到很多visiting faculty的利益,所以
可能要请律师跟他们argue。现在系主任说可以让我教一门课,有3个学生,而不是两个
课,有10几个学生。
我应该继续跟dean argue, 还是接受系主任的建议?

continuous tenure我的理解是tenured faculty。
probationary contract我的理解是tenure-track faculty,或者是长期lecturer(非
visiting或adjunct)。
如果你还想在这个学校呆一段时间,最好不要和系主任闹僵,我觉得他的offer已经挺
不错了。如果闹僵了,你生完小孩后,排课的时候给你穿小鞋,得不偿失。

你根本没有什么好argue的。visiting lecturer肯定是fixed term,到期滚蛋的那种。

probationary对应tenure-track,你不是。这根本没什么好argue的。

Thanks very much for all your input.
According to the handbook, Special Appointments for Fixed Terms are: All
appointments which are not probationary or with continuous tenure shall be
special in nature and for fixed terms of limited duration. No obligation
exists on the part of the College to evaluate such a special appointee with
a view to continued employment past the end of the fixed term, nor to give
any notice in respect of such an intention. The appointment terminates
automatically upon expiration of the fixed term.
However, in my contract, it says:
To be considered for future teaching appointments, if any, the college would
expect you to share your student evaluation forms for all courses taught
for our review prior to extending an offer for an additional appointment.
The office will retain a copy of your student evaluation forms for this
purpose. XXX should inform you by the conclusion of the academic year
whether we anticipate reviewing your student evaluation forms.
These two contradict with each other. That's why I was so confused. Is this
a good point to argue?

好像没啥argue的,你就是fixed term.
怀孕不影响上课的,即使要减工作量,等到生了孩子后更有用。

说实话,我并没有看出这两者有什么矛盾。
第一个是说,对fixed term的人,college没有任何义务考虑续约或者提前通知续约的
可能性。
第二个是说,college拿了你的学生成绩单去看以后还有没有可能续约。
就是他们没有义务续约,但他们可以考虑续约,我不知道哪里有矛盾。
基本上"no obligation"后面的话不可能是限制college的。
