Job Description
Title: Linux System Administrator
Job Description: The Wake Forest School of Medicine (WFSM) high performance
computation facility (HPC) is looking for an intermediate level Linux System
Administrator for an immediate fulltime position of Linux cluster
maintenance and HPC user support.
Benefits: Competitive salary, vacations, and medical insurance.
Primary duties:
• Install, maintain, virtualize, and tune the HPC hardware and
Linux OS;
• Create and maintain a robust Linux computing environment to
support the needs of WFSM HPC users of various backgrounds;
• Promptly install and maintain open source packages and software
according to user requests;
• Manage user accounts and implement HPC usage policies;
• Promptly respond to Helpdesk users’ requests;
• Maintain and monitor system backups and safety;
• Write, maintain, and update technical documentation of
applications as well as the F.A.Q. and user guides for the HPC website;
• Closely work with the IT department of the Wake Forest School of
Medicine (WFSM) for data safety, system safety, user support, and resource
sharing.
Qualifications. The successful candidate will have:
Basic Qualifications:
• Strong communication capability;
• 1 year of experience as Linux system administrator;
• Experience with shell scripting (BASH and Perl) to automate
administrative functions;
• Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux in
physical and virtual environments;
• Experience with cluster maintenance including job scheduling,
cluster performance monitoring and tuning, and parallel and clustered file
systems;
• Experience with maintaining Linux system configuration and
services including network, file, database, LDAP, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat,
iptables, rsync, and system imaging;
• Experience with data and system safety and disaster recovery;
• Master degree in EE, Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics,
Biostatistics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent, or BA or BS degree with
3 years of experience of IT systems administration;
• Flexible working schedules.
Additional Qualifications:
• 1 year of experience as an administrator in Linux-based high
performance computation facility;
• Ability to investigate and resolve problems.

其实说白了就是 entry level。本意是给物理、化学、生物专业有过使用和管理
cluster 经验的 grades 想转行做 IT 的提供一个机会，所以才专门标了一个 master
degree。对科班学 IT 的 master 可能是低了些。好在北卡生活开销低，房子便宜。
