请推荐一下好看的小说。个人的偏好是：
1. 语言规范，不要黑人英语之类的；《The Help》这种黑人英语连篇的就免了
2. 现代的，用词不晦涩的；最好是最近几年的书。如《Twilight》这种类型的我很喜
欢；
3. 有想象力，情节一定要引人入胜。
4. 不太喜欢科幻题材，不太喜欢政治/军旅题材。《Catch22》就免了。

狄更斯小说的英文版不是那么好读的，我很喜欢他，但他细节太多，情节发展太慢，英
文不是母语的人很容易失去耐心。
如果是为了消遣和练习英文，我自己觉得还是当代流行的悬念小说更好些，因为有悬念可以吸引自己查阅词汇和读到最后。我自己读到的肯定不是最好的，但是我读了John Grisham和Stuart Woods的大部分小说，基本上都没有觉得无聊过。John Grisham文笔很好，清新幽默，Stuart Woods更口语化。
p.s看到ditu原文说不喜欢政治题材，两个人刚好都有涉及。John Grisham名义上是写legal thriller的，但是悬念性很强，情节紧凑，法律程序的介绍只是为了给人物和情节一个背景。我最喜欢的他的小说是The Runaway Jury，但是这部已经拍成电影，如果已经看过了，那我最喜欢的没有拍成电影的是The Partner。
Stuart Woods也写政治，但刑事调查故事写的更多些。我最喜欢New York Dead，很紧凑，整个故事都是悬念，我直到最后才猜到凶手是谁。:)

Thanks for sharing your reading experience. John Grisham is one of my
favorite writers too, but I stopped reading his legal thriiler novels after
finishing The Last Juror in 2004. It was a very good one. The Broker has
still been on my reading list yet given a low priority. As for Stuart Woods,
I read his Short Straw, a smooth flow writing. It was OK, but I like
reading fast pace mystery novels better. His books are attractive to the
people having a lot of spare time and I don't have the luxury.

If you like Twilight or Interview With a Vampire you might try Anne Rice.
Although personally I don't like her stories. I like Victoria Holt instead.

But my favorite contemporaries are The Wild Swans, Da Vinci Code, Angels and
Demons, Harry Potter series, The Firm, Pelican Brief

You might've known this author who has a bunch in bestselling rack:
pelican brief. An ex-lawyer who is proficient in legal thrillers or
practicality.
First book is not anything near his domain of legal matters at all, but
very fun to read and consistent and page-turning. About a retired American
NFL quarterback goes to Italy for a second spring in Football career (don't
know if there is really an American-football-like league in Italy, maybe
just fictitious). Location: Parma.
Second book, if you're into inside of shady legal world, is for you.
About a class-action suit against the 3rd largest pharma company based in NJ
. Main characters are a few "street" lawyers from a shabby small law firm in
Chicago. It goes in detail about how lawyers go about their cases and deal
with court, and corporations etc. It feels very real, and for those
unrealistic you can take with a bucket of cheap salt:) Not a real thriller -
everything has
been clear up front. This book has been a top-10 fiction of someone' list.
If you ask this question: who can make routine legal events sound not so
boring? John Grisham is at least one of them. I understand that after
reading much of his thrillers, you might get exhausted and want to change a
little bit of reading direction. But those thrillers (bump up 5L!) really
turn on you taste on legal system in general... so it's compelling to read
on that round them up in one stone ( or the first stone of a series ).
Worthwhile both for entertainment AND education.

我发现我和楼主有相同的喜好。这几天正在读暮光之城，可以读得下去，也很喜欢。之

not particularly memorable. His books I recommend for those who like sappy
romantic comedies (or tragedies, in Sparks' case), but not for those who
like a little meat in their reading.

《福爾摩斯探案全集》，《基督山伯爵》，《斯蒂文喬佈斯傳記》的中英法德西俄文版
，對照著看，看看同一個意思，在不同的語言中如何表達。老讀英文版，久而久之很乏
味。所以，讀一讀其他文版，換換口味。
也讀《紐約時報》和《華爾街日報》英文版。還讀各種文版的網上新聞。
以前喜歡讀《大衛科波菲爾》，《名利場》，《遠大前程》等。非常喜歡，讀完後，英
文水平大有提高。
讀過現代英文小說，包括《教父》和其他各種偵探小說和言情小說，情節很廉價，語言
很膚淺，太口語化，沒有深度，沒有意思。讀這類現代小說，是寫不出高水平的英文來
的，比如紐約時報，華爾街日報那種水平。

前阵子随手抓了本Wife for Hire，觉得还满有趣的，能吸引人看完。200多页，那天没
事，一天就看完了。我看英文书很慢很慢，所以觉得这本还行。是07年的那本。

剛剛買了本《毛主席語錄》中英對照本。
英文原版小說，建議你讀《福爾摩斯探案全集》，挑選一些你喜歡的故事讀。不一定要
全書從頭讀到尾。但是，要精讀，仔細看作者的用詞和句法。光光追情節是學不到英文
寫作的，不如讀中譯本。

推荐福尔摩斯。写的好。我小时候就喜欢福尔摩斯，但是也是星星点点的读了写独

同喜欢 Jeffrey Archer，刚读完 Clifton Chronicles 的头三本，现在读
Be Careful What You Wish For

如果你喜欢Twilight，那么一下几个女作者的系列应该都合你胃口:
Hunger Games
Divergent
Matched
Mortal Instruments
Delirium
其实我更喜欢历史题材的。Outlander系列八九本书，花时间看看很有意思。电视剧比书
还好，拍得非常精美。男主角颜值也很高。老外版的穿越剧秒杀中国的。
