请教几个翻译问题

孔子说的 "和而不同", "同而不和"...这个"和", "同"怎么翻译? 有没有
一个英文词或词组...ie 尽量洗练(brevity), 优美(elegancy).
还有"君子"恐怕都翻译成"gentleman", 那"小人"呢?
还有＂刚，　毅，木，　钠＂.

君子: knight
小人: knave

君子翻译成knight恐怕不准.

I bet everyone knows the first 2, but I don't know who the last is.
I mean the chinese name.

这个同应该是附和的意思. clique中偏贬, 指小党派....
congeniality...感觉有点不地道...象用GRE大词不当....
呵呵...我也不知道, 瞎说啊
谁有那本林语堂的书, 那应该比较地道权威

I prefer the third site.
I don't feel quite right to translate 小人 into "small man", that's too
chinglish. When Deng passed away, CNN made a special program, in which
the comments said "Maybe he(Deng) is small in physique, but he certainly
has a huge character." Apparently, small man doesn't carry negative
meanings here.
I saw some translation that used "inferior man" for 小人, but still feel
a little awkward and chinglish. maybe it's just my feeling. I'm eager to
see what Lin's version is.

Actually translating into "small man" is not that bad. Ezra Pound
also translated it into "small man," as quoted in a reader's review
in:

Being such an established poet, Pound's sense of the English language
must be better than most of us. If he felt "small man" was a good
translation, then it most likely is. :)
