are you positive on that.. the handbook does not list all supported hardwares.. i m having hard time to believe that something got supported on OpenBSD/nETbsd but not on freebsd.. as for comparing these systems.. it depends on ur own needs.. but commonly speaking.. freebsd is the most useable one.. it has tons of applications ports and its community is light years ahead of the other two.. Open BSD is very good but too niche.. unless u r researching crythography/security stuff a lot.. u won't ev
well, I am not 100% positive, it is an Intel motherboard, on-board NIC and sound card. The mobo is Intel D865GBF. 865G chipset. I think the sound card is an AD1885, which has a linux driver, but seems there is no driver for FreeBSD. At least pcm driver does not work... Any idea? thanks a lot.

openbsd is good for security. why? less new software. :)

If the Lan card on the mother board is from broadcom, it is not likely supported by FreeBSD. OpenBSD and NetBSD normally support less PC-based hardware than FreeBSD. personal opinion, hehe.
Try netbsd first. Most openbsd drivers are ported from netbsd. I like OpenBSD a lot, but it doesn't support locale yet (some unofficial port from netbsd exist). And there are less app ports than fbsd does :) OpenBSD community always give the security the hightest priority. One more thing, X starts a little bit slower on OBSD than on FBSD, not a big deal though :)
