[语法] 用 between 还是 among？

首先一点，between 和 among 都是介词。
Between 意为“在 (两个或两个以上的人事物) 之间”，例如：
*Trade between China and America has decreased sharply over the past three year.
过去三年中美间的贸易急剧下滑。
*There is a fence between the two gardens.
两个花园之间有一道栅栏。
而 Among 意为“在 (三个或三个以上的人事物) 之中”，例如：
*He saw a familiar face among the crowd.
他在人群中看见了一张熟悉的面孔。
Between 后面最常接两个单数或复数名词短语，而这两个名词（名词短语）之间用 and 连接起来，即 between A and B 的形式。例如：
*What’s the difference between cheetahs and leopards?
猎豹和花豹有何不同呢？
*There’s a strong connection/relationship between lung cancer and smoking.
肺癌和吸烟之间有强关联。
Between 也可接两个同样的人或事物，可以这样写：
* There is no significant difference between the two computers.
这两台电脑没有明显区别。
补充一点，Between 最常位在 connection、difference、distinction、link 和 relationship 等名词以及 choose、differentiate、distinguish 和 divide 等动词之后，例如：
*There’s a clear difference between the dialects in the two villiages.
这两个村的方言有明显的不同。
*John had to choose between the two women in his life.
面对生命中的两个女人，约翰必须从中作出选择。
*It’s important to distinguish between poisonous and edible mushrooms.
分清楚有毒蘑菇和可食用蘑菇至关重要。
Among 用来表示“在 (三个或三个以上的人事物) 之中”，用法跟 between 基本相同，例如：
*The policy has caused a lot of anger among students.
这项政策在学生中引起极大的愤怒)
*I count Robin among my closest friends.
我把罗宾当作我最要好的朋友之一。
另外，among others 和 among other things 也是两个常用短语，表示“除此之外”（包含这个事物），例如：
*Mary has worked as a tutor among others.
除了其他工作，玛丽现也做家教（即玛丽做了很多工作，家教是其中之一）。
对了，有时 among 也会用 amongst 替代，用法、含义都一样，但 amongst 略正式一些。
