又一项全球第一!中国在这一领域走在世界前列
China’s first green and low-carbon methanol plant went into operation in Anyang city, central China’s Henan province, on Tuesday. Boasting an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, it is also the largest of its kind in the world.
Among other things, the plant features an innovative application of the emissions-to-liquids technology from Carbon Recycling International, an Icelandic company owned by Geely, as well as a world-leading carbon dioxide-capturing and purifying technique wholly developed in China.
Geely Holding Group Chairman Li Shufu said the project is a milestone in the large-scale utilization of carbon dioxide to synthesize clean energy, which is significant for China’s goals of achieving a carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
Li said: “Transportation is an important energy-consuming sector. If one third of the vehicles in China used such green and low-carbon methanol, we would be able to cut crude oil imports by 80 million tons and recycle 132 million tons of carbon dioxide, thus ensuring the energy security of China’s transportation sector.”
Ibsen said Iceland aims to realize carbon neutrality by 2040. So far transport is the only sector that has not fully used renewable energy. He said the country, which does not have its own auto industry, would like to introduce electric cars and methanol vehicles from carmakers including Geely to renew its fleets.
Geely has mastered methanol vehicles-related core technology. It has developed over 20 methanol commercial and passenger vehicles.
It is also the world’s first carmaker that has mass-produced methanol vehicles and introduced them into Europe. Geely is a leader in terms of both methanol vehicle technology as well as the number of models it has developed.
