Bridging the Gap: Livestream Matchmaking for Rural Chinese

In Linyi, Shandong province, a growing number of single youths who are getting older are turning to matchmaking livestreams in the hope of finding their soul mate. With the city’s low marriage rate — less than 50,000 couples registered to marry for the first time in 2022 despite a population of over 11 million people — these livestreams have become a popular platform for singles to connect with potential partners.
