Universal transport QR code debuts in XM
“厦门交通码”9月1日上线
The unified Xiamen transport QR code is now available for use across the local BRT, bus and subway systems. Commuters previously used different QR codes for each local public transportation system. The unified transport QR code can be used via 厦门交通 and 厦门公交出行 Wechat apps.

An exhibition featuring more than 100 pieces of memorabilia from the Flying Tiger Team -- an American volunteer group in China during World War Two -- opened last week at the Overseas Chinese Museum. Jointly sponsored by the Kunming Museum, the exhibition runs through September 22.
World track and field stars compete in XM

The China stage of the World Athletics Diamond League kicked off last Saturday at the newly-built Egret Stadium. The event included many of the world's highest-ranked athletes in their disciplines, including Olympic champions, world champions and world record holders.
The one-day competition encompassed 13 events, including 100-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter runs as well as the three-kilometer steeplechase, 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump for male athletes.
Female athletes participated in 400-meter, 1500-meter and 3,000-meter runs as well as the 400-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and discuss throw.
Prior to the race, renowned Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake and American track champions Norwood Vernon and Marvin Bracy paid a visit to Xiamen Xindian Middle School. The trio discussed the impact of athletics on their lives and the importance of physical fitness.
Lin Wenjun earns 3 canoe-and-kayak world championship medals

Flat-water canoe and kayak Lin Wenjun, a female Xiamen athlete, won two gold medals and a bronze medal at last month's ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany.
Ms. Lin's performance in the 200-meter canoe sprint earned her a spot on China's team for next year's Olympic Games in Paris. She is the first athlete from Xiamen to earn a spot on the 2024 Olympic team.
XM tourism bureau unveils 30 Sports Travel check-in spots

The local tourism bureau announced recently the current list of check-in spots for its Sports Travel campaign. The program encourages residents and tourists to visit 30 local spots associated with sports and athletics in the city and to check in online. The current roster of spots include the Xiamen Olympic Museum, the city's health trails, Xinlin bay's cross-sea bicycle path, the Meifeng Sports Park and Egret Stadium.
BRT celebrates its 15th anniversary and nearly 1.5B passengers

The Xiamen Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network opened its first route on August 31, 2008. It has carried a total of nearly 1.5 billion passengers over the past 15 years.
Today, the BRT network ferries 15 percent of the city's bus passenger traffic and holds roughly seven percent of the local transportation network's bus capacity across its eight lines. Passengers travel a combined 84,000 kilometers per day. A BRT bus arrives somewhere on the network every 26 seconds.
CIFIT set to host 80,000 attendees

The 23rd China International Fair for Investment and Trade will launch in Xiamen on Friday. An estimated 80,000 guests from 1,000 entities and roughly 100 countries are set to participate in this year's CIFIT.
The fair's total exhibition area is 120,000 square meters spread over three pavilions dedicated to investment promotion, industrial innovation and development and project capital cooperation Pavilion.
SM Xiamen Maluan Bay project slated to open in 2025

Construction is currently underway for the main upper structure of the first SM commercial complex project outside the island of Xiamen. The project in western Maluan Bay New Town is adjacent to Fulian road.
The one-billion-yuan project covers 28,900 square meters and is slated to open in 2025. The facility will feature more than 140,000 square meters of gross floor area.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering recently announced their biannual lists of candidates for the academies. The nominees include five Xiamen academics. Four of the local nominees hail from Xiamen University.
XMU research team identifies biomarker for nasopharyngeal cancer

A Xiamen University research team lead by Xia Ningshao recently published an article in the New England Journal of Medicine detailing the team's study of P85-Ab, a marker for nasopharyngeal cancer.
The team suggested that detecting the marker can help in the early diagnosis of cancer, allowing for improved treatment outcomes. The team is hopeful that a commercially available detection reagent for P85-Ab will lead to important clinical applications.
Trial operations begin for FZ-XM-ZZ high-speed railway

Trial operations formally began on August 31 for the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou section of the Ningbo-Guangzhou high-speed railway. When the railway is fully operational, the route will place Fuzhou and Xiamen with one hour of each other. The new route features China's first cross-sea high-speed railway in China and boasts a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Local officials announced last week that concrete pouring is now complete for the entirety of the concrete structure of the upcoming terminal for the Xiamen Xiangan Airport. The main structure of the north parking building has also been capped. The main structure of Corridor C was capped earlier this month.
