China Writing Contest Deadline Extended to May 14, 2022
As the deadline for this year’s China Writing Contest nears, we’ve been amazed by the quality of everyone’s submissions and we’re excited to see what the next few days have in store. However, we’ve also received some feedback from prospective contestants that the recent pandemic lockdowns and other restrictions are less than conducive to writing and polishing drafts.
Here in Shanghai, we can definitely relate. One of our goals is for this contest to be as inclusive as possible, so, considering the circumstances, we are formally announcing an extension of the deadline to 11:59 p.m. (GMT), May 14, 2022. Entries will not be penalized provided they are submitted before this time.
In addition, we want to emphasize that entries must be between 1000 and 5,000 words. Entries that do not abide by the word limit will be disqualified. We’re currently going through articles and formatting them for our judges; if we notice any that are over the limit, we plan to reach out over email. But due to the incredible volume of submissions, we strongly encourage checking your submitted pieces in advance. There’s still time to resubmit if you realize your piece is over the limit.
Below are a few more tips as you dot the i’s and cross the t’s on your work.
1.
Please submit your work as an attachment, preferably a Microsoft Word document, to [email protected]. The author’s name(s) and the total word count should be included in the email title, and in the title of the attachment, e.g., “name(s) – word count - title of your work.”
2.
At the end of your article, please write your name, location (country/city), and email address. The information will be used by the organizers for contact purposes only and will not be displayed to the judges.
3.
If you wish to include photographs or images in your submission, please send them along with the article as attachments. Submissions will not be penalized for a lack of visual elements.
4.
Please do your best to save all source materials that you used for the article, including (but not limited to) pictures, recordings, and videos, so as to facilitate the fact-checking process.
5.
You may write the article directly in English, or write it first in Chinese and then turn it into English (word-for-word translations are not encouraged). If you first wrote in Chinese, you may send the Chinese version for reference.
6.
If your article is based on your research or fieldwork, please keep an eye on its readability for lay audiences. Please also make sure that you hold the rights to your research. It is suggested to attach the original paper as a reference.
As always, if you have any more questions, please click read more to refer to our contest website, or feel free to email us at [email protected]. We’ll respond as soon as we can.
