从癌症边缘到生育奇迹! BC省华人含泪亲述两代人的抗癌故事!

In 2013, I was 32 and newly engaged. Maggie and I were living with our two dogs, and I was working in software…

2013年我32岁，刚刚订婚。我和麦琪还有我们的两条狗住在一起，当时我在软件行业工作……

Then one day, while showering, I felt a lump in my testicle. When a urologist told me “that’s cancer”, I almost fell over.

然后有一天洗澡的时候，我感觉睾丸里有个肿块。当泌尿科医生告诉我“那是癌症”时，我差点昏倒。

I had emergency surgery, but a follow-up scan revealed a bigger tumour wrapped around my adrenal gland, which also had to be removed. Thankfully, that surgery went smoothly and I was cancer-free.

我接受了紧急手术，但后续扫描显示，我的肾上腺周围有一个更大的肿瘤，也必须切除。谢天谢地，手术进行得很顺利，我摆脱了癌症。

A few years later, I got a call from my father… I knew instinctively it was bad news and rushed over. “I have stage 4 lung cancer and am starting radiation,” he told me.

几年后我接到父亲的一个电话，本能告诉我这是个坏消息，于是我立即赶了过去。“我的肺癌已经到了4期，正开始接受放疗，”他告诉我。

It was the first time I had ever seen Dad cry.

那是我第一次看到爸爸哭。

When I got home that night, Maggie told me she was pregnant. I was buzzing with emotions, receiving the best and worst news of my life in a single day.

那天晚上我回到家，麦琪告诉我她怀孕了。一天之内收到了生命中最好和最坏的消息，我一时心乱如麻。

Dad received chemo and radiation and took part in an immunotherapy trial. We were so grateful… The excellent care from BC Cancer allowed him to live long enough to meet his first grandchild, Caden.

爸爸接受了化疗和放疗，也参与了免疫治疗试验。卑诗癌症中心的精心疗护使他能够活着见到他的第一个孙子凯登。对此我们感激万分……

A year after Dad passed, we found a lump in my other testicle… it was cancer again.

爸爸去世一年后，在我的另一个睾丸上又发现了一个肿块……那又是癌症。

Maggie and I wanted to grow our family, so before the surgery (which went very well) we worked with a fertility clinic to plan for in vitro fertilization. We were told the odds were extremely low, but we decided to try anyway… It worked out successfully on the first try, and we were gifted our second son, Liam.

麦琪和我想为我们的家继续添丁，因此在手术之前（手术进行得很顺利)，我们与一家生育诊所合作，打算进行人工受精。虽然得知成功的几率极低，我们仍然决定试一试……不料第一次尝试就成功了，于是我们喜获了第二个儿子利亚姆。

I have so much gratitude for everything BC Cancer has done for me and my family, and I want to ensure all families across B.C. have access to the same excellent care. I also know how critical it is that we invest more in research to find better and more effective treatments for people facing cancer in the future.
