刚刚看到有人问有没有科学实验表明突变是随机的。其实有两个重要的实验可以表明突
变是随机的。但是请注意这里的随机的意思和平常的随机的意思是不同的。
这里随机的时间是说突变不会因为生物的需求而产生,不是说生物需要那种突变,那种
突变就会更多产生。
现在其实已经表明不同类型的核苷酸突变产生的频率是不同的,transition比
tranversion发生得更频繁,而且现在也发现DNA的某些区段比其他区段更容易有突变产
生,就是所谓的hot spot。所以在这个意义上突变不是“随机的”。
这两个实验是:
(1)The Lederberg experiment
(2)Luria–Delbrück experiment
真正有兴趣的TX可以去查查,很简单但是很巧妙的实验。

These experiments are about the mutation outcome distribution (whether the
distrubtion following a particular pattern, say uniform) conditioning on
control factors. Logically, you can prove whether the outcome fits a
particular pattern, but you can not prove with certainty that the outcome
does not fit any pattern.
So these experiements do not answer the fundamental qustion that I have
asked you-- when new species are formed by gene mutations, whether these
mutations are spontanous and "random" (w/o purpose, w/o any pattern).

you are making an assumption that new species come up just in a sudden. in
fact it is an accumulative process
