I am wondering if anyone know
how to correctly mark the stress in syllable, including
primary stress, and secondary stress.
take an exmaple,
internationalism
internationalist
the primary stress is in NA syllable.
and secondary stress is in IN syllable.
And Is there any else secondary stree? if it exists, please mark it.
and how can you mark it?

i don't think there is a tertiary emphasis. if there is, it would have to be
LI, in my humble opinion.
usually, what sounds good is what is correct.
thanks

In dictionary, 'li' in 'lism' is in secondary stress, but 'list' is marked
as unstressed. I am wonder why lism is stressed secondarily, but list not.
because I hear they are the same pitch, the same volumn, and the same
spectrum.
I used frenquency analysis soft to analyze them and found no difference
between them.

the reason why "li" in "lism" is stressed and "li" in "list" is not has
everything to do with syllables. you see, "li" in "lism" is not the last
syllable. "sm" is. "li" in "list" is the last syllable.
thanks.

yes, you are right.
We have known lism should be pronounced stressedly and list not.
This is like we have got music composition.
But the question is how to sound the music compositon correctly.
We know how to sing do, ri, mi, fa, so ,la and ci. So we can
sound any music with music composition.
But how to pronounce [,inter'nation, lism] and [,inter'nationlist]
so that we can know the difference between lism with secondary stress
and list with unstress?
Given a music playing, a musician can write o

of course we can, if we got functional ears.
a lot of that is just by convention. after we have dealt with a lot of words
, we will be able to know how to hear/say them without doing a PhD thesis in
our heads.
and a lot of words have different pronunciations. for example, the word "
carribean" can be pronounced as "ca'rribean" or "carri'bean". i am sure the
dictionary will give out only one, but there are actually people who say
both, just like "often" can be pronounced as "ofen" or "of-ten", "s
