Because it reflects the *most recent* willingness
of the market to trade this stock.
That's as close as you can get to reflect the
*current* willingness of the market to trade.
Because the fact that somebody paid $400 for
a share of Google last year doesn't have anything
to do with how much somebody else wants to buy
it today?
