1908年的剑桥校园,克莱夫爱上墨利斯。然后因为克莱夫决定从政,而且受到同有断袖
之癖的好友卫斯理身败名裂的刺激,克莱夫决定与墨利斯分开。
电影三位主要男角,俱是唇红齿白的俊美少年,美丽的少年追求一生知己之爱,何其美
好!美好到令我忽略影片中男同之爱独特处,男人之间,女人之间,男女之间的爱本身
并不因性别而改变,若有不同,只在面临的社会压力不同,男女之间的爱或许被社会所
认可,但人生中面临的其他障碍,又岂只有社会禁忌这一条?门第、财富、路途、时机
,爱的障碍,原已有千万重,性别只是难越的河涧中一种。
“你尽快回来”、“办完事,你就回来”、“你可以将这里当成你的家,想来就来,想
走就走,安,也象我这样想”。
这是结束与墨利斯的柏拉图式情人关系,克莱夫与另一女子结婚后,片中克莱夫三次送
墨利斯时,他看着墨利斯的脸庞所说的话。他,在屈从于世俗压力及政治现实的婚姻之
外,仍渴望能与身心相知的人长相伴。可是墨利斯始终不回应他的眼神或是转头面向他
,或是他在分手之际已经看透克莱夫的自私。
影片后半部,墨利斯在寂寞与肉身需求的折磨下,与克莱夫的猎场管理员史库德有肉体
结合。并最终为对方不计回报的爱所感动,而选择在一起。
可是,为什么他在去船库找史库德之前去找克莱夫,告知自己与史库德的事,是怨?你
离开我不足惜,我如今亦有人能朝夕陪伴,共享鱼水之欢;是惩罚?我得到需求的同性
之爱,可你,只能与自己不爱的女人貌合神离,平生难展眉。
倘若墨利斯果然满意于与史库德的结合,则眼中唯有新人笑,怎能再有心恨旧人。他心
中明了,因而去找克莱夫。也许,他还在爱着克莱夫,他对他说“史库德没有得到我的
任何保证,牺牲自己的将来,选择留下来陪我”,是在倾诉,在心中暗问克莱夫:为何
你背弃我?为何世俗中一切都重要过我?为何你不肯为我做出一点点牺牲?还在剑桥时
,当墨利斯接受克莱夫的感情后,因为与克莱夫郊游,被dean发现而责成写检讨,可是
为了表示忠实自己的选择,他拒绝做检讨,从而不能再入学。他可以为爱牺牲,而克莱
夫选择与世妥协。
墨利斯与史库德,先天已有阶级知识的差异,不可能有与象克莱夫谈论柏拉图哲学、共
弹一曲的精神之乐,唯肉身的爱,日复一日,难免厌倦,又能持续多久呢?与克莱夫谈
话后,他离去找史库德,史库德问他是否收到自己送去的东西,他没有,但他们开始拥

墨利斯离去后,克莱夫失神地关窗,在幻觉中见到墨利斯在剑桥,在春日的阳光下,微
笑对他挥手“ come on”,他不为所动,墨利斯转身离去,他眼神黯淡地回看倚在他肩
上的妻子一眼。影片结束。
克莱夫与墨利斯,屈从于世俗,屈从于肉身,然而,果真有完美的解决方法吗?能不负
内心所欲又与世妥协者,问世间,有几人?“曾虑多情损梵行,入山又恐负倾城”,此
恨原是人人有!
没有happy ending,只有原作者对人生缺撼的接受,不点破、不反抗,只有接受。
很可惜,我不知道影片结束时呈现的画面与音乐的隐喻之所在。

And Brighton’s bracing air.
I don’t know what the blackbird sang,
Or what the tulip said;
But it wasn’t in the chicken-run,

Is it usually sick on a swing?
Does it spend all its time at the races,
or fiddling with pieces of string?
Has it views of its own about money?
Does it think Patriotism enough?
Are its stories vulgar but funny?
