Me and my LD, one in east coast, the other is in west coast. I'm a AP, he is
in a big company. We have two kids. My job is in a big city. My LD has been
looking for a job here, but no luck yet.
Now there is a faculty job opening (that I could apply for) located at 90
miles away from where my LD is. The problem is that this job is in a very
small town. LD will almost never be able to find a job in this town.
I'm struggling whether I should apply for it. I get the job, we will still
not be daily

我29号帮我妈网上填的表，30号我妈自己预约的，现在北京已经约到11月2日了。

But it's really tough to be separated with two kids. That's why I'm thinking
maybe it's better to be able to see them weekly. I know many couples on the
board works apart. I remember that somebody said if within 500 miles, it's
OK. I would like to know how do they feel by seeing each other weekly. Is
that similar to a normal life? Will the kids be comfortable?

to find something good for him after the job market gets better.
Glad to know that 90-mile won't do any good than west/east coast. Then I don
't even need to try.
Actually, our back-up solution is 1) I give up my tenure-track career and
work part-time at LD's location (mid-sized city); 2) LD takes some lower-
level job at my location.
I understand we shouldn't separate for family point of view. But everyone
has the right

But it is kind of sad to see that you are maxing your career at the cost
of living apart (with two kids). This is so similar to a post from
yesterday. It must be hard. I wish you guys can reunite soon.

Every friend of us is saying this. But I would feel more comfortable to
sacrifice my career because LD is "he" not "she".
It's sad to be apart with kids, but most friends said that what we are doing
is to make the kids' future more secured.

stay where you are. Tenure-track AP typically only has one chance to move
around, considering your tenure clock, reference, etc. If you move to the
small town, it will be harder for you to jump out of there.
