I am not sure if this error is related to the slow shutdown. In the "applica
tion log" of the "event viewer". If u can find a error like this:
source: userenv
event: 1000
Windows cannot unload your registry file. If you have a roaming profile, yo
ur settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.
DETAIL - Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).
it is probably the reason.
But if there is not,is any other kinds of errors? the general idea for such
problem is: if u have some autostar

sorry to interrupt...i have the exactly same problem...
here are some error examples i had on my win2k:

this 5th one is what I meet, and it caused slow shutdown in my computer. As
suggested by Microsoft, the newest patch should solve it, but it do not. Whe
n I check online, I get shis workaround:
Feb 3, 2003
Symptom: 60 seconds additional delay in shutting down or logging off Win2K.
The problem is described under this heading already, but it is appearing aga
in (apparently) as a result of Win2K critical update Q329170, 12 December 20
02. Work-around is as already noted:
Run gpedit.msc. In local co

This is acutally INTRODUCED by a service pack (or a hotfix) of win2k.
well-known problem for about 6 months now, no real solution so far.

This is my idea, for ref. only
back up the registry. delete all services and drivers and auto starts except
those neccessary to run nt, try again and gradually add services and drivers.

The methods I know:
1. RegBack.exe and RegRest.exe
2. Recovery console
3. Manually backup registry hive files
there's a list of registry hive files in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist
mine are:
\\Device\\HarddiskVolume1\\WINNT\\system32\\config\\SECURITY
\\Device\\HarddiskVolume1\\WINNT\\system32\\config\\software
