I was notified yesterday in the department meeting that I will be in
another
group. Similar function, but different business area, reporting to a
different manager.
Nobody talked to me about the change before the department meeting.
I was just wondering what is the implication. I thought at least they should
have talked to me before the announcement.
Anyone have similar experience?

It could be a bad signal. Meaning you are likely not the core people in
either group. If the company is doing fine then nothing to worry, but if the
company is laying off people like crazy, then better be prepared.

你老板对你有什么要求你没有做到吗?
很多时候是老板不想要你了, 先把你放到别的组, 让别的老板也观测你一阵子.
有时候什么事也不会发生, 有时候是转变的契机.

难说，我知道的还有刚上班两个月就被换组了的呢，你说刚两个月老板就不喜欢了？

如果只是你一个人换组，就危险了。如果很多人换，很正常

No, my ex-boss becomes another bigger group lead. People who used to report
to him were put in other groups.
I was in this company for 5 months, and this is also a new industry for me.
However it does sound weird to me that I knew my transfer in departmental
meeting, nobody approached me about this matter before the meeting.

Then, no worries. Simply they did not communicate well enough, but you
should not think too much either.
