Job Title: Functional Excellence Manager
Department: Quality & FE, Global Operations
Report to: Sr. Quality & FE Manager, Greater China
Job Location: Yi zhuang, Beijing or Shanghai
Job Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and drive effort across China: standardization of approach,
and of operating mechanisms (e.g., Lean metrics, project tracking mechanisms
, project prioritization and resource allocation models). The objective is
to drive a high level of visibility and accountability around Functional
Excellence initiatives, including Lean Six Sigma projects.
2. Drive changes into the organization (continuous improvement culture, lean
, six sigma)
3. Coordinate the selection process for the most impact projects, and drive
the allocation of global resources required to support them (e.g., CAPEX,
functional excellence, global function support)
4. Be a key enabler in realizing the functional excellence vision (creating
a culture obsessed with continuous improvement)
5. Use every opportunity (tech transfer, product line transfer, site
consolidation, new operations) to inject six sigma/lean in the key aspects
of what we do.
6. Benchmark our businesses against relevant competitors or best in class
industries; bring these ideas into the company, and spread them. Key
facilitator of best practice sharing.
7. Tight coordination and collaboration with the site and functional leaders
(and with the site and functional Black belts so we do not duplicate any of
the ongoing efforts, nor confuse our employee base.)
8. This position is a high impact one, but involves leveraging resources
across the organization. The position has no direct reports, but will have a
number of indirect reports (for example the Ops Black and Green belts
within the sites or functions)
Main Requirements:
1. A minimum of a BS degree required; scientific or biology education
preferred. MBA or other masters level degree would a plus.
2. Must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience
3. Must have 3 years of hands-on six sigma/lean experience (i.e., must have
lead the successful implementation in a company, not as a consultant)
4. Deep project management experience
5. Black Belt (Master Black Belt preferred)
6. International experience within the Asia Pacific region is an advantage
7. Cross functional experience (e.g. manufacturing and quality; supply chain
and engineering
8. Life sciences background is a plus
Desired Profile:
1. Great leadership skills, more specifically in influencing, and driving
complex situations and projects to the desired outcome
2. Track record as a change agent in a mid to large size organization
3. Good understanding of multiple functions
4. High degree of creativity and problem solving skills to adapt the lean
six sigma tool and create news ones to suit needs.
5. Beside Lean Six Sigma, the individual has the potential of taking a
senior role in a site or a function after a couple years
6. Hard driver; high energy level; positive attitude; works well under
stress.
7. Coupling strong analytical skills with good interpersonal skills (no
arrogance, please!). Ability to relate to people at very different levels in
the organization (shop floor technician to CEO)
8. Strong communicator with very high energy level.
9. Hands-on, action-oriented, and able to implement effectively through
other groups and teams.
10. Operations minded.
11. Able to work autonomously in a matrix-managed organization
12. Willingness to travel (~20-40%)
13. Comfortable with ambiguity and change
