真是有钱人会更有钱
Exercise benefits a variety of organ systems in mammals, and some of the
best-recognized effects of exercise on muscle are mediated by the
transcriptional co-activator PPAR-γ co-activator-1 α (PGC1-α). Here we
show in mouse that PGC1-α expression in muscle stimulates an increase in
expression of FNDC5, a membrane protein that is cleaved and secreted as a
newly identified hormone, irisin. Irisin acts on white adipose cells in
culture and in vivo to stimulate UCP1 expression and a broad program of
brown-fat-like development. Irisin is induced with exercise in mice and
humans, and mildly increased irisin levels in the blood cause an increase in
energy expenditure in mice with no changes in movement or food intake. This
results in improvements in obesity and glucose homeostasis. Irisin could be
therapeutic for human metabolic disease and other disorders that are
improved with exercise.

That's very good science but still far from a drug.

was in his talk about a big half y ago, pretty impressive, sometimes one
could be wondering whether it is due to vision or serendipity, anyone could
possibly predict why evolution/God has chosen this design...it seems several
groups are working on this/or along the same line...

Not so many big bull ever has drug on the market. The ones who have drug on
the market are usually very low key (never mentioned on here). Do you know
there is a professor getting 20 million a year for his drug and that's only
0.5% of the drug's revenue.

I read the paper. I am just seeing how fast he switches (although there is
another big bull switches subject like crazy, too). You do know that you
cannot fully protect an endogenous protein IP wise. The science is good, but how much money you can make is a completely different story.

我对这个文章的 fig5d 有一些疑惑，首先是这个western blot 图的质量，感觉是信号
很弱，曝光很长时间得来的，希望不是play around photoshop 弄出来的，姑且信它吧
，那么 3week exercise 后并没有那种很高很高的表达，而且control也有一定的
irisin 表达啊，这么能说明是excise 后的irisin 起作用了呢？

Fig.3的data全是另加的FNDC5吧？为什么全长的而不是irisin就可以browning呢？

这是用血清做western blot,加上irisin是新蛋白，应该抗体还不那么优化，有这个效
果是不是可以接受了？
后续的实验不是验证了irisin的作用了吗？Fig6

猜测这个实验应该是在Irisin鉴定出之前做的。直接用的是FNDC5.
irisin也有browning的效果，见fig6
